Get reading this review of chroma keyboard.
First thing’s first, the BlackWidow Chroma gaming keyboard is probably the most complex of all the Razer devices we’ve come across. Instead of displaying color in a couple of different ways, this keyboard has a huge number of different color options – making it pretty unique. It’s not new by any means – in fact, it was first launched in 2014. But sometimes the best products are the ones that have stood the test of time – and this is no exception. The BlackWidow Chroma remains one of the most popular keyboards for gamers out there, especially on the pro eSports circuit, where the top gamers use it when competing for big cash prizes. But just because a product is popular, it doesn’t necessary mean it’s very good. Let’s find out whether the BlackWidow Chroma lives up to its almighty reputation…
Let’s pause here to tell you about the different features you’ll find when you purchase this keyboard. OK, ready? Here goes…
- + 10 key roll-over anti-ghosting
- + Razer Synapse enabled
- + Life span of 60 million keystrokes
- + Keys can be fully programmed with macro recording
- + Gaming mode option
- + Relatively lightweight – only 3.31 lbs
- + Used with braided fiber cable
- + 1000Hz Ultrapollng
- + USB pass-though
- + 5 additional macro keys
- + Mic-in and audio-out jacks
As you can see, that’s one very impressive list. Let’s take a closer look at some of these features….
Firstly, the keyboard works with Razer Mechanical Switches – and each one has been branded with the company’s name. Each switch has different levels, such as Reset and Ohm, and the keyboard lights up in different colors when you perform different actions. This differs from other gaming keyboards from Razer, where green keys were the norm. But the BlackWidow Chroma takes this to the next level – with multi-color backlighting, and loads of color variations available. Colors change when using Spectrum Cycling, the keyboard will illuminate for Breathing mode, and one color will be used for Static mode. Sounds great, right? But that’s not all. Each individual color has a different color, and you’ll be dazzled when the colors change based on your tapping motion when in Reactive mode.
What we liked
There were lots of things we liked about this gaming keyboard. For starters, the cable on the device doesn’t bend or tangle like some other products, and connects to the Audio In and Audio Out port on your computer. There are also two USB ports – providing you with one additional port on your keyboard for an accessory. Razer headphones connect to a standard USB port as well, so you might want to use this additional port for that very purpose.
Another very important test as far as we’re concerned when reviewing a new gaming keyboard is the audio. And the BlackWidow came up trumps in that department – just connect standard jack headphones and you’ll see what we mean. Ease of use is the only word for it. We should also point out at this stage that the keyboard comes with full instructions as well, so if there is anything technical you think you’ll struggle with, you’ll be covered.
To get the most out of your new keyboard, you’ll need to download Razer Synapse – software that allows you to customize each key. This offers numerous choices when it comes to keyboard functions, mouse capabilities, launch programs, multimedia, and switch profiles. You can even use Windows shortcuts to change different aspects of the keyboard, and there’s a lighting editor where you can change LED brightness and play around with different effects.
If you’re thinking what the big deal is about BlackWidow Chroma, then realize this: it’s more than just a gaming keyboard with pretty colors. In fact, it has all the capabilities that you would expect from Razer, with a number of new features thrown in on top. If you want to add a new dimension to your gaming, then this is a great product to choose, with a life span of 60 million keystrokes; fully programmable keys with macro reading; and 5 additional macro keys. Then there’s the Razer green mechanical switches, gaming mode option, a heavily braided fiber cable, 10 key rollover, and USB pass-through.
