Firstly, we need to discuss what an EAN barcode is. This is a 13-digit retail barcode that originates in America but is used throughout the worldMost retailers will prefer this barcode.  It is used on any normal retail product such as a tub of ice cream, a bottle of coke or even a cd.  EAN barcodes are very versatile and can be used in a multitude of ways. SA Barcodes can provide these barcodes for you at the lowest prices.

Case barcodes are also called Box barcodes or ITF-14 Barcodes. These barcodes are used on a box of products and indicates that there is more than one item in the box. The way it works is that the individual product such as the bottle of coke will have its own unique EAN barcode.  The box barcode is a 14-digit code that is linked to this individual EAN barcode.  When a retailer scans this barcode – it will bring up a case of 6 coke bottles. This helps retailers to receive stock into their inventory.

When would I need to use Case barcodes?  You will need to purchase case barcodes when you are providing your products in bulk to retailers.  Some retailers will be happy for you to only have EAN barcodes. However, there are retailers that will require you to have both EAN barcodes and ITF-14 barcodes for your products.   You don’t need to worry about this at all, because SA Barcodes is here to help you along the way.
