Since the rise of Internet media, more and more ways are made to make a living using the Internet. Who would know a couple of years before that earning money online is possible today? The technological advances of today have made it possible and even easier for business-making through the Internet. One good example is affiliate marketing.
Affiliate marketing is when a merchant, company, or source’s brand is promoted by an affiliate (third party) through different means. If a buyer clicks on the affiliate’s link, he or she will be redirected to the merchant’s site and the affiliate gets paid for the referral. It’s like an agent getting commission from selling a product he is promoting, but the process happens online.
Seems like an easy task, right? No, it’s not. You can compare it to an infant where upon having one, it requires utmost care and maintenance for it to “grow up”. If you don’t provide enough effort to sell the promoted product, what’s the point? Affiliate marketing is all about selling other people’s product. So it means there are certain things that are needed for it to work. Outlined below are the three major steps that are essential for starting up with affiliate marketing.
Determine the target
Before anything else, think about what you are going to promote. Is it relevant to your website? Does it benefit more than take away? It is recommended to choose which products you should endorse.
Setup your website/ social media
After determining the product you’re going to promote and setting an agreement with a merchant, the next thing to do is optimize your website so that more people will click on your affiliate link provided by the merchant. This step includes implementing Search Engine Optimization (SEO) because after getting the referral link you would want someone to click on them. That’s pretty much how you make money from it, anyway. Make more content that relates directly to the affiliated link like blogs, reviews, and even personal opinions. You already have that thing that makes money, so the next thing to do is to make it work to its full potential.
Find and get traffic
Traffic basically means the amount of people visiting your site. Affiliate marketing mainly deals with you being paid every time a potential buyer clicks on the referral link you provided. So it is just natural to come up with ways on how to increase the number of visitors on your website. I would have to advise you, though, that it is important to come up with legitimate ways to do that, since most forms of black hat SEO do not work anymore after Google launched certain updates like Panda and Penguin.
These steps are just the start of the journey in affiliate marketing. The key here is to be committed to it. Leaving it alone would not do anything. If you put enough effort to it, one day the rewards will be great.
