WordPress Running 79% of Websites in 2015

In a report entitled the State of the Web, it has been revealed that WordPress is by far the most popular CMS used across the internet in 2015. Some 79% of websites are estimated to use the WordPress system, with other CMS systems such as Joomla and Drupal trailing way behind with a tiny 7.2% and 5.3% respectively.

The report also goes on to list the top active WordPress themes and the most popular plugins. Leading the pack in the world of plugins is Askimet, WordPress SEO, Contact Form plus the WordPress importer. These plugins have helped WordPress to develop into the powerful and versatile CMS that it is today, essentially giving users complete control over their sites. In addition to this, the mobile optimization features found within WordPress, also help to make it popular – despite this, at 51% optimization, there are fewer sites optimized than might be expected

    I think there are 2 major reasons behind this huge success and popularity of WordPress. First from development point of view, it’s so simple to use that anybody can create their own website and second, the emergence of affordable WordPress hosting that provides the required hosting environment for the superior performance of WordPress sites than others.
