What makes the Samsung Galaxy Camera different from other new cameras such as the Nikon S800c is its integral connectivity. If the latest Nikon camera will come with WiFi capability, the Samsung Galaxy Camera appears to be the very first camera to have 4G or 3G data connections (aside from WiFi). That is according to the Korean-based manufacturer, Samsung.
This seems pretty big in the world of high tech cameras because it poses as the first actual challenge to the portability and convenience of smarphones. The 3G and 4G options are said to come with integrated Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS as expected.
The Samsung Galaxy Camera provides a lot in just a little box, with its full access to Google services such as navigation and maps and Play Store. Important camera specifications include:
- 4.77-inch LCD
- 1/2.3-inch BSI CMOS image sensor
- 21x optical zoom
- Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS
The camera also comes with full access to Google Play Store, which lets users install popular photo apps such as Instagram and also games. The camera also runs on a 1.4GHz quad-core processor although there’s still no report on what processor it’ll be. The Galaxy Camera says it is 0.75 inches deep excluding lens and grip. The back display is measured as 4.77 inches and has 308 pixels-per-inch density.
Samsung Galaxy Camera can be controlled using its touchscreen display but it also comes with a power and physical shutter button plus a zoom toggle atop the camera. The camera will provide a standard Android 4.1 operating system.
As expected, this camera would be bigger than your average camera in order to give way to its large screen. It measures 2.79 inches in height, 5.07 inches wide and 0.75-inch thickness. In comparison to Panasonic’s most recent camera, LX7, Galaxy is almost as big as it is although it’s a little thinner.
Samsung’s Galaxy Camera features an integrated flash, a whooping 8GB of in-built memory and HDMI output. You can also expand its memory using a micro-SD/SDHC memory card. The camera’s lens has built-in optical stabilization feature and the 16-Mpixel image sensor is illuminated on its backside so that its ISO ranges from 100-3200. There’s still no report if the camera will come with a detachable battery although word goes that its battery has a capacity of 1650 mAh, something more powerful compared to the average compact camera battery.
The Korean-based manufacturer still doesn’t divulge the camera’s price or its availability in the US. We may have to wait until there is an official announcement is made. You can also look at the full press release on the camera at Samsung’s official website.
With the various powerful capabilities of this latest Samsung Galaxy Camera including its 3G and 4G capability, access to Google services such as GPS and maps, Play Store and more, this camera will surely change the setting of having Android on cameras.
Let’s all watch out for the availability of this camera and let’s see how well people will receive it. Would you be a proud owner of this camera provided budget is not a problem?
