One tedious activity of having a blog is promoting it to people. Most web masters market their blogs or articles on social networks, blogosphere, blog directories and other websites that you can get attention to your post. This technique of promoting ones self is good but its not great. Too much promotion entails an image of low quality content. Good quality content magnets its own readers.
And so we are back to square one. What you write is the most important part of this whole process. You need to have very substantial content so your blog can easily market itself. Let’s get to work!
Go With The Flow
If you are a traditionalist, you need to break free. There are a lot of social networks in the cyber world, and you must actively live in it! Twitter and Facebook are two of the most popular social networks, that is why they should be on top of your list of marketing channel. Widen your friend connections; it brings huge impact. Also, be aware of what is happening in the real world. For example, there is a well-known upcoming town festival in your place, try to write something about that too, take advantage of that buzz and ride the band wagon. This will make your blog viral to your market niche without you promoting it.
Pre-Launch Your New Post
There is this one site that I consistently visit because he frequently writes about his travels. If he visited a country and stayed there for 4 days, he blogs about it. But he makes his readers come back for more by just writing one entry per day of his vacation. In reaction, we, the readers, would just visit again to check if he already posted the next entry about his escapades. We simply know that there would be more, because at the end of his previous post, he always lets out a cliff hanger, sort of like introducing his next entry early on. Pre-launching your blog entry effectively will guarantee you more visits by the time you post your new article.
Catch Them Through Curiosity
People like gossip. Whenever a person says “Oh my goodness I found out something about Mr.___ yesterday!” and everybody would just be hovering and dying to know what it’s about. In your blog, aim to make controversial titles that would induce interest juice from your readers. Headlines or titles are the first thing that is read so you better make it a good one. Widen your vocabulary, learn different idioms, practice double meaning statements. Just have fun with words so that the curiosity of your readers will be triggered and hence read your article and full and would probably share it to their friends as well.
Write Interesting Description / Excerpts
As mentioned above, play with your words. When people read, their imagination works with their eyes. If you write vivid descriptions, it becomes more interesting for the readers. It will capture them and they will want for more. Share a popular line from a book, a quote from a business tycoon or song then write about your thoughts. Reminisce experiences relating to that excerpt and surely there will be blog visitors that can relate to that too!
The body of your article is as important as your introduction. If your readers decide to click on “Read More…”, make sure that it’s worth visiting for them and that they won’t click on “Close” after reading the first 2 continuation lines. As a writer, and a blogger, it is your responsibility to delight your readers with all your blog entries. If you write well enough, you can write about any topic and your readers would still be interested to read no matter what. Words are powerful and you need to catch your readers in every paragraph so that they wont bounce off from your article.
Sharing is Caring
Your main goal is basically to have a lot of visitors and frequent readers in your blog. Encourage your readers to share your work by satisfying their reading needs. If they find your articles worth-sharing, they will spread the news no doubt! You can also encourage them to share your articles by providing them with the right widgets to share like Facebook, +1 Button, Stumble Upon, Digg and others.
Your way to success is in the thoughts and ideas that makes your blog. Be out there, explore new things, discover places and share it! If your blog is worth sharing, people will read it and share it without you telling them to do so, it will come natural. The best way to get plenty of readers and frequent visitors in your blog site is to make your entries not only worth-reading, but more importantly, worth-sharing. Remember quality content is content worth sharing.
