How to Take Screen Shot on Android Smartphones?

Android is one of the popular operating system which has captured 75% of the market share in the year 2012. Even 2013 is going to see some of the great smartphones with android operating system. According to wikipedia.com 500 million devices are using android OS. In the previous versions (1.6 onward to 3.2) it was not easy to take screenshots on an android based device, but after the release of 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) it is now part of the OS. Although you can still take screenshot on a device which has 1.6 or any other version but for that you will need to use third party applications (available in Google Play Store).

In this article I am going to share the methods of taking screen shots on any android devices. So lets discuss it.

Taking Screen Shots on Android Devices with 4.0 Version OS

1. Go to “Settings” and find “Motion“.

2. Now scroll down and find the “Hand Motion” and then tick the option “Palm Swipe to Capture“.

You are now ready to take screen shots. However in order to finally take a screenshot you will need to place your hand parallel to the screen (make sure to touch the screen) and move it from left to right or inverse. Once done you will hear a camera shutter sound which confirms that the screen shot is taken successfully.

Here is video by AdviceMedia.com which can help you in the last part. (taking the screen shot after enabling Palm Swipe to Capture option)

Alternatively you can also use the following methods to take screen shot on your android device.

  • Press the “Home” button and “Camera button”  simultaneously and it will take the screen shot. Make sure to press both buttons at the same time, otherwise it will not work.

The above 2 methods works for Samsung Galaxy S (Series) and Note series.

In most of the android devices you can also use the following method to take screen shots.

  • Press the “Home” button and “Volume Key Down” at the same time. Hold down until you hear a sound.

As I mentioned earlier you will need to use third party apps to take screen shots on an android device which has 1.6, 2.0-2.1, 2.2, … upto OR 3.2 version.
