How to Make Friends With Your Blog Readers – Part 3

This article is a continuation of a short series of articles titled “Connecting With Your Blog Readers”. You can read part 1 here, and part 2 here.

As the title of the series says, it’s all about knowing your readers and connecting with them so that they stay what they just are. In the previous 2 articles of this series, we discussed about getting to know your readers and bonding with them via blog commenting, which also includes replying to the comments received, and using the power of social media.

In this article, we shall discuss on how to connect with your readers using the power of broadcast messages i.e. using email marketing tools.

Is Email Marketing Only About Marketing?

A lot of tools and services in today’s market offer the required online materials for email marketing. Email marketing is mostly being used to promote products, affiliate products, new services, updates on the subscribed products and much more. But the question being asked is that does it all ends here? Did you current subscribers only subscribe for the sake of receiving such promotional emails? Don’t they expect the sender to actually talk to them, or better respond to them? Believe it or not – they really do. Hence, the conclusion for this very question says that email marketing does not end with promotional emails.

All the tools and services that provide the materials for email marketing do not stop you from writing what you want and prefer. Hence, here’s where the part of connecting with your readers comes into action.

Connect With Your Readers Through Broadcast Messages

No auto-responder service allows you to send a broadcast message to a person who is not in the ‘list’. To get into the list, a person has to go through a double opt-in process. The first one is to submit the Email Address and/or name, and then confirm the subscription via clicking on a link that comes inside the ‘confirmation message’.

This was to help you understand that your subscribers have manually subscribed to your list. They are, hence, happy if you talk to them and connect with them. They do expect you to answer their queries, if asked. They do expect you to provide them something which any random person cannot. In short, they are actually waiting for your words inside those mails.

The practice of ONLY sending promotional emails is not at all effective, and is actually proven to give negative results – in the form of unsubscriptions. Therefore, you need to talk to your subscribers. The use of language here depends a lot. An example of actually talking to your subscribers is here –

Hello (FirstName), it’s actually been quite long since you heard from me. But nevertheless, I am back – and I’m back with good news! We (me & wife) just had our second child! ………..Bless You.

Do you see any sort of language use in that simple message above? The writer is directly talking to the subscriber – hence he is adding a complete personal touch to the whole message. Needless to say that there should be something professional within the messages, but adding a personal touch just makes the reader feel closer.

How To Make Readers Reply Back?

Readers don’t often reply back to messages, even though you might have used the personal touch. In such cases, you shouldn’t worry much as you’ve done your part. Some other solutions to increase the replies could be –

  • Using Polls Inside The Messages
  • Linking The Visitors To A Survey Page
  • Uploading Personal Pictures etc.

Final Wind Up

To conclude, this series was all about connecting with your readers. If they don’t start it, you should do the honors. Always remember that relationships, not always money, help you – anywhere in the world.
