How to Fix Google Redirect Virus? [Permanent Removal Solution]

If you are redirected to another page when you search in google, yahoo, bing or any other search engine, then chances are that your computer is effected by redirect virus. It is one of the commonly used virus  these days, created by hackers to redirect users to a malicious or malware effected websites to steal their personal data, credit card information and web passwords.

The tricky part is that even popular antivirus and internet security softwares can miss to catch these redirects. Hackers are smart and they know how the antivirus program works. They can easily cheat an antivirus software. However you don’t need to worry because solutions are available and you can get rid of all such redirect viruses.

Solutions to Fix Google Redirect Virus – Free

In this method I am going to show you how to fix and remove the redirect virus manually. First of all make sure to run an anti malware and anti hijacker software on your PC. There are several available for free. It will make sure to remove any redirect virus available in their database. If your issue is fixed then your computer is safe now. However if you still face the issue then follow the below method.



1# Check your Hosts File

For Windows XP, VISTA and Windows 7 Users:- Go to My Computer > C: Drive > Windows > System 32 > Drivers > etc >

Right Click on hosts file and open it through Notepad. Normal hosts file looks like this

If you are seeing any extra IP addresses or website name inside your hosts file then remove it. In order to edit the file you will need to grant administrator privileges to the file. Go to Start > Right Click on Notepad and select  Run as Administrator. Inside notepad click on File Menu > Open and locate the hosts file. (You can now edit the hosts file).

2# Check DNS Setting

For Vista and Windows 7 Users:- On the status bar click on the notification icon of your Dial Up Connection OR Wireless Network. (In my case it is wireless connection). A popup window will appear, Right click on the connection and click on Status. (As shown in the screen shot)

2. The General windows  will open. Click on Properties as shown in the below screen shot.

3. On the Networking panel of the Properties panel. Click on Internet Protocol Version 4 (TPC/IPv4) and click on the Properties button.

4. Tick Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically inside the IPv4 Properties. (As shown in below screen shot.)

5. Click on OK button. (If it already ticked then proceed to the next step)

Repeat the same for Internet Protocol Version 6 (TPC/IPv6)

For Windows XP Users:- Go to Control Panel > Network Connection and Right click on Local Area Connection and select Properties.

A screen will appear where you need to click on Internet Protocal (TCP/IP) and click on its Properties. When the properties page open tick on Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically and click on OK button.

3# Check your Browser Proxy Setting

For Internet Explorer Users:- Launch the browser, go to Tools > Internet Options and click on Connection tab. Then click on LAN and untick all the options of the page.

For Mozilla FireFox Users:- Open firefox and click on T00ls > Options > Advance > Settings > No Proxy

For Google Chrome Users:- Click on the icon located at top right in the browser.

Click Settings > Show Advance Settings > Change Proxy Settings > LAN Settings and tick on the first option i.e Automatically detect settings.

  • wed 30march 2015 i just got infected.
    i think it was because i was trying to watch ‘300 rise of an emprie’ on the website viooz.
    i am using windows8 [the tiles] on a lenovo g50-45 model80E3 laptop.

    My homepage is google in chrome and mozilla and I get redirected.
    I followed these steps but it did not work.
    If i type bing in the address box in both chrome and mozilla i am able to search.
    PLEASE HELaP.
    i cannot pay $29.
    if i uninstall chrome and mozilla and then re install will that delete the virus?
