Google Drive: Begin Sharing Files

Google has recently launched various new services. Its more recent launch Google Drive is an entirely new experience for users. It is an online file-storage service similar to Microsoft’s SkyDrive. Google Drive has a host of amazing features, but its focus is on letting users upload and share files online. On signing up, you get 5GB storage space for free complemented by all the fun features like image recognition and smart tagging.

Google Drive offers various unique features that are not available on any other similar platform on the internet. It provides a great deal of flexibility and convenience to users. Guides and videos are available online that make using this feature even easier.

Setting up your account

In order to use Google Drive, you need a Google account. If you already have one, you can start using Google Drive with the free 5GB storage space. All you have to go is log in. A user friendly step to step guide will help you through your first time with Drive.

Storage and sharing

To be able to store and share files, you will need to install the Google Drive software in your PC. It automatically creates a folder for the same on your Desktop. All you have to do is drag and drop the files you would like to upload and share in the folder. This automatically uploads the files to your Google Drive account. Once the files are uploaded, they appear in your account and can then be shared. With your permission, other users can view, download, comment and even edit your files.

In case you want more storage than the initial free 5GB, you can buy more space for reasonable rates. Users can buy up to 1TB of storage space, which is charged on a monthly basis.  The maximum file size that can be uploaded is 10GB. But this depends on the memory you have and users who have only 5 GB can upload only that much. Google Drive allows you to upload documents, images, videos and more. The content can be shared with others who have a Google Drive account.

Google Drive allows users to integrate files with other Google products such as Google docs, Code and Gmail. Before uploading your files, you can convert the format or just upload it in the existing format.

Offline viewing and text recognition

Google aims to provide its users with the most unique features and tools. In case you forget the name of a file and want to search for it, Google Drive finds it by matching given text with text in its files. You can even view your documents offline by installing an application in Google Chrome.

Search filter and smart tagging

Filtering is super easy with Google Drive. You can conveniently find any of your files like documents, images and videos by filtering them from all your other files. It just takes a few seconds. Images can even be tagged with labels and then found with just one click.
