The following are some useful tips for blog writing:
It is good to be interesting, humorous and newsworthy. But the most important thing is to be useful. People won’t subscribe to your blog just to get humor. There needs to be more. In the same way, good story telling is not enough. People will visit your blog and keep returning if you have content that will be very useful to them for their everyday life.
Though space is not limited with blogs, the readers’ time is limited. Therefore, save them time by being brief and to the point. If your post is long and winding, they may not read your post at all.
Usually, readers subscribe to several blogs. However, it is unlikely that they will read all the blogs every day. Therefore, you should enable them to scan your post quickly to catch the main points and either move on or read further. If you just have long paragraphs with plain text, you won’t be read. The ideal way of writing scannable text is writing lists. People will be able to easily pick out your main points. You could also highlight your main points to make your post scannable.
Without a good headline, no one will read your post. People receive many posts daily in their feed readers. Usually, they just glance at the headlines, and end up reading posts which have interesting headlines. Grab their attention immediately, and make sure the post delivers.
Blogs are a small part of the World Wide Web, and you need to capitalize on that. Direct your readers to other posts which provide some background and context. Allow them to read further about a subject by providing links to other posts. Offer a useful list of resources.
Edit your work
Many writers have the tendency of writing something and submitting it before reading it first. This is okay if you have a good editor to check your work. However, if you are a one man show, you need to carefully read your post and revise, rewrite and edit where necessary. Always put your best foot forward.
Read other blogs
Get familiar with other blogs, both within and outside your niche. See what other good blog writers are doing. Remember also to learn from the mistakes of others. With time, you will be on top of your game.
