5 Tips For Using Instagram To Promote Your Event

As far as brand promotion goes, Instagram is one of the most effective and easy-to-use social media tools available.

The reason being is simple: Instagram allows you to do everything through pictures. Cheap smartphone photos suddenly become classy; filtered works of art that are easy on the eyes (and highly shareable in many cases).

This means that building your brand and advertising can be done quickly and effectively with nothing more than a smartphone and the free Instagram app. Coca Cola’s Instagram page is a particularly good example of using Instagram to build a brand; though it’s not likely that Coca Cola is struggling for exposure.

The New York Times even ran an Instagram photo on their front page recently.

For smaller companies and startups, it can be incredibly effective. Particularly, if your company has an event to promote, Instagram is one of the first places you should go to do it.

Depending on the size of your online following, Instagram can be ideal for promoting an event. When you couple its focus on photography with some of the tagging features and how quickly visible Instagram content tends to become, you’ve got the perfect environment for a business to share photos and provides updates for an event.

Here are a few tips to make sure you get the most out of your Instagram efforts:

1. Use an event tag

Just like Twitter, Instagram uses hashtags to categorize and share content. If you share any photo related to your event, give it a designated hashtag and make sure that you consistently use it when and if you share anything else related to that event.

2. Generate familiarity with event graphics

Any kind of graphic, poster, flyer or other material that you’re using to promote your event should be served up as an Instagram post. If people are able to make the connection between something they’ve seen around town and something they’re seeing on the Instagram feed, that’s a good thing.

It also gives you the opportunity to add a bit of artistic flair to your event graphics, so if you create a poster and have the original file, upload it to Instagram, add a filter, and post away!

3. Provide some “behind the scenes” photos

If it applies (and in most cases, it does) providing some behind-the-scenes photos related to your event can be a great way to generate interest and get people to share your content. You’ll want to achieve a little bit of balance here, since overexposure can peel away some of the intrigue and mystique surrounding your event.

Overall, this is a great tactic to use for raising awareness and anticipation, so make sure to incorporate it into your Instagram campaign.

4. Use GEO-Tagging

Instagram’s GEO-tagging feature is essentially a way for people to share where they are in addition to a photo. If you have attendees on Instagram, they’ll be able to see where they’ve been on a small map, which will include your event’s location.

This is definitely something that can come in handy, particularly in the days leading up to the event. Users can share location and tag information with most any other social network including Twitter and Facebook.

5. Quick and Easy

Among the many ways to increase your online visibility through social media marketing tips, Instagram stands out because of the fact that it’s tremendously simple, quick and easy to use. In terms of a marketing strategy, you’ve got nothing to lose here. If you’re thorough and consistent about posting content related to your event, you’ll only help the cause.

As you become more active on Instagram, more people will follow you and future events should see an increase in awareness as a result.

Patel@ In Instagram is a iphone and android application you can install in your mobile to share your photos. While Pinterest is a web based image sharing website where you can create your own board and pin images to it.

Both are image sharing websites but one is web based and the other is mobile based.
