10 Ways to Get Deep Printing Discounts

Print marketing is one of the best ways to find new customers, bring established customers back in and increase brand awareness. No matter what type of print marketing your company engages it, it behooves you to seek the best printing deals – those that yield premium printing for a discounted price – in order to maximize your return on investment. The following details 10 ways you can get deep printing discounts.

1# Print higher volume

The more pieces you print, the lower your price per piece. When you’re printing something you know you’ll want to print again in a few months – or even next year – print ahead to save money at the press.

2# Downgrade your paper stock and size

Your choice of paper stock and size can play major roles in your printing price, not to mention your direct-mail postage rates. Play with different configurations to find a great paper stock that performs at a low price point.

3# Start with a discount printer

Don’t waste time with self-proclaimed “high end” printing companies, who probably won’t come down too far from their premium prices. Instead, start with a printing company that already offers discount pricing.

4# Wait for prices to come down

You can save as much as 60 percent or more on printing if you’re willing to wait for it. Plan your marketing campaigns well in advance so you’re prepared to jump on the best deal in time to launch.

5# Negotiate

Most of us don’t like to negotiate, but in many cases simply asking for a reduced price or stating that the price is too much can result in a discount. Sometimes you’ll find a great deal from a printing company that seems somewhat dubious. Rather than risk your investment, take your quote to a reputable online printing company and see if they can match it – or at least come close.

6# Look for coupons

Always check coupon sites for discount codes before you purchase printing services.  Also, see if your printing company offers discounts if you purchase additional services, such as graphic design and mailing services.

7# Become a reseller

Several online printing companies have reseller programs that give you an instant discount on all orders. Even if you’re just reselling to your own company, you can realize instant discounts by signing up for reseller programs. Note that most have a minimum volume you should be able to satisfy before you join.

8# Seek specialists

Work with discount printing specialists, who understand how to make specific projects such as postcards, banners, brochures and business cards more affordable. Ask your printing company what they specialize in; whatever it is they do most, they’ll have streamlined processes for and will be able to offer discounts.

9# Ask your printer

Sometimes, you know exactly what you want – say, a 4×6 direct mail postcard, printed both sides on 12-point gloss paper full color process. Other times, all you know is you want to launch a direct-mail marketing campaign. In such cases, ask your printer for advice. Your printing company will know how to minimize your printing investment to achieve your goals. They also know which of their customers are successful – and what their direct-mail marketing materials look like. And they’ll be happy to share their expertise, given they have a vested interest in your success.

10# Hire a print broker

If you don’t want to do the research yourself, you can hire a print broker. If you decide to go this route, vet your selected broker carefully and find out whether they get kickbacks or any other benefits from printers. You need a broker who represents you, not printing companies, so they’ll put in the time and effort to find the best match for your situation.
