I thin 2% – 5% is quite low for affiliate program but yeah — i will try it too look how it is going because it is a google anyway.
I have no luck with Google,. they reject me all time.,
Affiliate type ads suits the best of websites with content related to products and items. Its another good way for earning money for we bloggers.

it is very difficult to convert to sales unless , you have huge traffic.
